Unboxing

Meet your ultimate traffic beating machine. Thank you for choosing an electric scooter to cruise past traffic and reduce carbon emissions. Now let's get you up and riding.

Your Blue is partially assembled already, so you’ll only have to do a few things to get riding. First, locate the screwswrench, and power supply.

Assembly

1. Fold the lever up to lock the neck.
2. Attach the handlebar to the neck.
3. Use wrench to install handlebar screws.
4. Turn power on.

Charging

Once you’ve assembled your Blue, it’s time to charge. Use the included power adapter and connect it to the charging port. DO NOT charge your Blue if either your Blue’s charging port or power supply are wet. If either are wet, wait for them to dry and then begin charging.

Riding

Once your Blue is fully charged, you can unplug it and start your first ride. For your safety, always wear a helmet and knee pads while riding. Inspect vehicle frame and neck for any cracks or wear before riding.

Display
Power (On/Off): Press and hold power button for 3 seconds.

Press power button once for headlight.

Press power button 2 times to alternate between acceleration modes. The chosen acceleration mode will be displayed on the screen.

Acceleration Modes
Press the power button twice to choose a preferred acceleration mode:

ECO
Limits acceleration and top speed to 10 km/h for a slightly smoother and gentler ride.

D
Provides the normal level of acceleration and top speed of 20 km/h.

S
Sport mode on performance vehicles provides access to the maximum level of acceleration and top speed of 30 km/h.

Using the increased torque and power available in Sport mode can reduce range and efficiency.

It is the rider's responsibility to ensure that driving style and acceleration do not endanger or inconvenience others.

Range
The electric scooter's actual range depends on many factors, including the environment and personal riding habits. For example, one rider might accelerate faster and brake more suddenly than another who may ride more conservatively.

Speed is one of the major factors affecting electric scooter range. Riding at high speeds continuously or accelerating often will require more power and torque, which quickly depletes your battery. As a result, your range will shorten quickly.

Factors Affecting Range

Elevated riding speed.

Environmental conditions such as cold or hot weather and wind.

Uphill travel: Riding uphill requires more energy and depletes range at a faster rate. However, riding downhill allows your vehicle to regain a portion of its expended energy through regenerative braking.

Short trips or stop-and-go traffic: It takes energy to bring the battery to a specified temperature when starting the vehicle. You may see a higher average consumption when the vehicle is used for very short trips or in heavy traffic.

Riding or storing your electric scooter in very hot or very cold temperatures can decrease the battery’s capacity and lifespan.

Heavy cargo load. The more weight that your electric scooter needs to carry, the more power it needs to exert to carry the weight. As a result, this depletes the battery.

Wheels and tires not maintained.

Customised settings or third-party accessories.

Tips to Maximise Range

You can maximize your driving range using the same driving habits you use to conserve fuel in a gasoline-powered vehicle.

To achieve maximum range: Slow down and avoid frequent and rapid acceleration. Consider using ECO mode.

Ensure the wheels are aligned to specification, the tires are kept at the recommended inflation pressures and are rotated when needed.

Lighten your load by removing any unnecessary cargo.

Disable features when not needed.

To prevent an excessive amount of energy consumption while the vehicle is idle, keep the vehicle plugged in when not in use.

A well maintained battery can perform well even after many miles of riding. Charge the battery after each ride to avoid draining the battery completely. When used at room temperature (22°C) the battery range and performance is best.

It is normal for estimated range to decrease slightly over the first few months before levelling off. Over time, you may see a gradual, but natural, decrease in range at full charge – this depends on factors such as riding style or the mileage and age of the battery.

Finally, make it a habit to turn off your electric scooter even if you only need to leave it for a short while. Save as much power as needed to maximise your battery. Make sure that no other functions or features are turned on if you don’t need them. This way, your battery can only focus on running your electric scooter.

Starting and Stopping
Place one foot on the deck and kick with the other to propel forward. Hold down the Accelerator (right thumb throttle) to go faster. Use the Brake (front or rear) to slow down and stop. Deploy the Kickstand when you are not using your Blue.

Where to Ride
Each state and territory in Australia has different sets of rules and regulations when it comes to riding electric scooters. It’s important to note there are locations that do not permit e-scooter riding or parking; please always follow local rules and laws. Avoid sharp bumps, drainage grates, and sudden surface changes.

After you Ride
Once you’re done riding, you can park and lock your Blue. We recommend charging it once you’ve completed your last trip.

Folding and Carrying
Make sure that the scooter's turned off. To fold, unlock the folding mechanism, and bend the handlebar stem to hook the buckle on the rear mudguard. To open, press the bell trigger to remove from the buckle, erect the handlebar and lock the folding structure.

Occasionally, you will need to adjust the rear brake, either when your scooter first arrives or as it wears out the brake pads. If you hear a grinding noise when spinning the back wheel (and it does not spin freely), this means the brake needs to be loosened. If your braking power is too weak and the handbrake lever too loose, you'll need to tighten the brake.

The brakes can be adjusted in two locations. From the rear brake pad, or from the front calliper.

The rear adjuster uses the same wrench size as was included in your original package. This is the best starting point for adjusting the brake, and is sometimes all that is needed to achieve the desired tension. Spinning to the right will tighten the brake by pushing the outer brake pad closer to the disc. Spinning to the left will pull the brake pad away from the disc and loosen the brake.

Adjusting Disc Brake

To further adjust the brake, the calliper nut below can be loosened using the same wrench. From here the brake cable can be pulled further through the bolt towards the back of the scooter for tighter braking, or loosened by letting some of the tension move forward through the brake cable.

Adjusting Handlebar
If the handlebar and its neck sway during riding, use the wrench to tighten the screws on the folding mechanism.

1. Use wrench to loosen screws on neck.
2. Align handlebars to your preference.
3. Use wrench to tighten screws on neck.

Maintenance

No zeros: Prevent delays by keeping your Blue charged.

Clear skies: Avoid riding your Blue during and after wet or extreme weather conditions (rain, snow, etc.).

The art of maintenance: Examine the following Blue parts before every ride to keep your Blue in great shape.

Hand brakes: The wheel should not rotate when braking—test it by rolling your Blue forward and back while squeezing the brake lever.

Tyres: Make sure the tyres are in good condition and still have sufficient tread.

Fenders: Both the front and rear wheel fenders should be in place and connected securely to the frame.

Steering: Move the handlebars back and forth to check that the steering is tight. Also rotate the handlebars to the left and right to make sure the steering is smooth and doesn't bind or stick in any way.

Gimme shelter: If you leave your Blue outside, keep it dry by placing it under a cover. Take your Blue inside in case of extreme weather conditions and temperatures.

Keep it clean: If your Blue gets dirty from rough terrain or heavy use, just give it a quick wipedown. Use a soft, wet cloth for basic cleaning. Use a toothbrush for scrubbing. DO NOT USE corrosive cleaning chemicals that may damage your Blue. These include:

- Gasoline
- Acetone
- Alcohol

Battery Pack Maintenance
Do not store or charge the battery at temperatures outside of the stated limits (see specifications below).

Do not puncture the battery. Refer to your local laws and regulations regarding battery recycling and/or disposal.

A well maintained battery can perform well even after many miles of riding. Charge the battery after each ride to avoid draining the battery completely. When used at room temperature (22°C) the battery range and performance is best.

Warning: Do not attempt to disassemble the battery. Risk of fire. No user serviceable parts.

Warning: Do not ride when the ambient temperature is outside of the operation temperature (see specifications), because low/high temperature will limit the maximum power/torque. Doing so could cause personal injury or property damage due to slips or falls.

Warnings

To Avoid Series Injury:

The manufacturer recommends riders be 16+ years old. Read and understand all safety warnings listed on the product label, located on the left side of the scooter deck. Always follow these safety instructions.

People who should NOT ride the Blue include: Anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Those with heart conditions, pregnant women, or persons with head, back, or neck ailments that limit their ability to ride safely.

Comply with local laws and regulations when riding this product. Do not ride where prohibited by local law.

Familiarise yourself with all of the scooter’s functions. Before you ride, make sure you know how to accelerate and brake, and do so slowly, especially in traffic. It’s important to be mindful of your surroundings at all times and to minimise sudden stops that can result in accidents.

Obey traffic laws. Electric scooters can travel as fast as bicycles and share the associated risks. Stop at traffic lights, signs and make sure drivers can see you.

Get rid of distractions. Put away your phone, loose the coffee, and always ride with two hands. Don’t use headphones or earbuds. When riding you should be able to hear what’s going on around you and be prepared to slow down, stop, or steer around pedestrians or obstacles.

Do not ride in the snow, in the rain, or on roads which are wet, muddy, icy, or that are slippery. Do not ride over obstacles. Doing so could result in loss of balance or traction and could cause a fall. Whenever you ride your vehicle you risk injury or death from loss of control, collisions, and falls.

When braking rapidly you risk serious injury due to loss of traction and falls. Watch your speed when traveling downhill. Apply brakes when traveling at high speeds. If brakes are loose, tighten with the brake tensioner nut located at the rear of the scooter. Turn the nut clockwise to tighten and increase braking strength.

Some Blue accessories may present a choking hazard to small children. Keep these accessories away from small children.

Ride safely to avoid falls or collisions.

DO NOT use the Blue for racing, stunt riding, or other manoeuvres, which may cause loss of control, or may cause uncontrolled operator actions.Avoid contact with moving parts. Ensure hands, feet, hair, clothing, and other body parts stay clear of moving parts like the motor or rear wheel.

ALWAYS keep both hands on the handlebar when riding.

Do not attempt to replace the Blue battery yourself. The lithium-ion battery in Blue should be replaced by Blue Ride or an authorised service provider. Improper replacement or repair could damage the battery, cause overheating, or result in injury. The battery must be recycled or disposed of separately from household waste. Don’t incinerate the battery.

To prevent electric shock, do not immerse the charger or battery in water when cleaning. To clean, remove the charger plug from the outlet and wipe with a dry cloth.

Only use the charger specified by the manufacturer.

Only store is dry areas. Never store in wet conditions.

Troubleshooting

If it somehow runs out of battery can I use my Blue like a normal scooter?
It's not easy to use the Blue as a kick scooter because, as an electric scooter, the wheels have built-in magnets as part of the high-power motor mechanism. If you attempt to use it as a kick-scooter while powered off, although this wouldn't damage your scooter, you will have to push against these magnets and it will be quite a workout. Making a motor-like noise is normal whenever the wheels are rotated, even when power is off, and is not a cause for concern.

My Blue won’t start.
This could be because your Blue does not have a sufficient charge to ride. Plug it in and charge fully, then try again.

My Blue got wet and it doesn’t work anymore!
Don’t panic! Let the Blue dry for at least an hour before trying again. If it still doesn’t work, contact our support team for further assistance.

Is my Blue waterproof?
Your scooter is water resistant, however it is not waterproof. This means that although it is generally best to avoid water exposure, the scooter will safely operate in slightly wet conditions such as light rain or wet surfaces. It is not designed for extreme or prolonged exposure to water or humidity. Please note that any damage to the scooter due to water exposure is not covered by warranty.

Something broke on my Blue!
As a Blue owner, you have prioritised customer support. Contact the support team to begin the repair process.

Can I still ride my Blue where scooters aren’t permitted?
Yes, but we recommend riding in permitted locations whenever possible.

Since I own my Blue, can I customise it with stickers or paint?
Yes, but try not to cover important information or identifiers (QR code, serial number, vehicle instructions, Blue logos, headlight, brake light). Keep these features intact for your safety and if your Blue needs maintenance.

My Blue is not charging.
Charging has stopped because your vehicle has detected that the connection between the charge port and charge cable has been unexpectedly interrupted.

Before disconnecting a charge cable, make sure you first stop charging.

Try charging again by disconnecting the charger from the vehicle and reconnecting. If the issue persists, turn OFF the circuit breaker servicing the charger, wait 10 seconds, turn the charger ON again, then try reconnecting the charger to the vehicle. If the issue persists, consult your electrician or contact Newport Skate.

If the issue is suspected to be with the vehicle, inspect the charge port inlet and the charge cable connector for any obstructions (use a flashlight as necessary). Debris, moisture, and/or foreign objects present in the charge port inlet or the charge cable connector can prevent the charge port from properly communicating with the charging equipment.

It is recommended that any debris / foreign objects be removed and any moisture be allowed to dry. Afterward, try re-inserting the cable into the charge port. Charging should now be possible.

If the vehicle still does not charge when you try a different wall outlet, try charging at a different location.

My tyre is flat.
This alert indicates that one or more of the tyres on your vehicle is extremely low or flat.

The tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) has detected that the air pressure in one or more of your tyres is significantly lower than the recommended cold pressure (RCP). This recommended pressure is displayed on the Tyre and Loading information label.

You should pull over carefully as soon as possible. In a safe location, check for a flat tyre.

My Blue is displaying an error code.
This error code is caused by a short circuit in the wiring of the Blue. The assembly cables, screws, and any other wires on the exterior of the Blue should be inspected.
